As one of the most recorded classical artists performing today, Sir James Galway has made himself a legend, a modern musical master whose virtuosity on the flute is equaled only by his limitless ambitions and vision. Through his extensive touring, over 30 million albums sold and frequent international television appearances, Sir James has endeared himself to millions worldwide. As an instructor and humanitarian, Sir James continues as a tireless promoter of the arts.
In 2008, Sir James Galway asked Conn-Selmer to undertake a joint venture to produce a flute that students could be proud to own and inspired to play. He also wanted it to be a part of his year-long 70th birthday celebration. Of course, Conn-Selmer accepted the challenge of the master. In August of 2009, Conn-Selmer brought 40 prototype flutes to the National Flute Association Convention in New York. The response from both flutist and teacher attendees was overwhelmingly positive. And - Sir James was delighted with his birthday gift!
Features on every of the Galway Spirit Flute
- Galway embouchure specification: An embouchure designed by Sir James
- Green Gemstone in Crown: Every crown is bezel set with an emerald colored cubic zirconium gemstone.
- CNC machined cups and pads: Traditional drop-forged cups reveal the exterior design on the inside of the cup. This causes pads to create an uneven seal unless they are heavily shimmed. Our more expensive CNC machined cups provide a flat surface for the pad and a precisely center pad screw spud. The result is a pad with fewer leaks and adjustments.
- Performance Flute Plug: The Performance Flute Plug designed by Bob Ogren features double O-rings and a Delrin™ stopper which creates a long lasting seal. The seal will not fluctuate in different humidity conditions. In addition, it provides tonal stability and enhanced response.
- Double skin Pisoni Pads (Mypads)
- Gerald Carey cleaning rod: Carbon fiber reinforced and virtually unbreakable. The smooth surface will never scratch the interior of your flute.
- A=442 Cooper-Brannen type scale
- Galway Engraved Signature
Available Models:
- JG1
The JG1 is designed for the beginning flutist or for those more advanced players that prefer to play on a closed-hole instrument. The C foot joint is standard. For a B footjoint, order JGBO. Whether choosing a C or B foot, the sound is rich and easy to produce throughout the entire range of the flute. The action is smooth and even - neither too stiff nor too light. The G key is standard offset. The JG1 is the best quality and best sounding student flute produced.
- JG2
This flute is a perfect starter instrument (with holes plugged) or an economical way for the more advanced player to experience open hole keys. The JG2 is available with B or C foot joint. This model is the same body, Y arm mechanism and head joint as the JG1.
- JG3
The JG3 is an exceptional step-up instrument. Reasonably priced with a hand-trimmed Sterling Silver head joint, this flute is an inspiration for the professional woodwind doubler or for the advancing student. Sterling Silver provides extra richness and depth to the tonal qualities of the flute. The flutist will have confidence that the flute’s sound carries and that the beryllium springed mechanism delivers the action required of the most difficult technical passages.
