Rock, Jazz, Classical, Marching, Irish/Newfoundland (Kit or Bodhran), Hand Drums and more! Thanks to the various backgrounds of our highly trainned and experienced Percussion/Drum instructors you may choose to play just about any style of music you want. Our instructors stress proper technique and teach students how to read music and play by ear. While typically most can start drums around age seven, we have accepted drum students as young as four years old. Male, Female, Adults and Seniors are all welcome - drumming has proven to offer both physical and mental benefits.

Drum / Percussion Teachers

Bryan Efford - Percussion, Drums, Drum Line Director
Bryan has been studying and performing as a percussionist for over 20 years. Bryan has studied with notable educators Robert Power and the late Don Wherry. He has a great love of marching and military band music and has been a proud member of the CLB Regimental Band since 1992. Bryan is a principal accompanist with the Mount Pearl Show Choir and has performed at Walt Disney World and in Japan. He has been teaching for over 14 years and in 2004 founded The Music Collection's Mount Pearl Drumline.

Keith Harding - Percussion, Drums
Keith Harding holds a Bachelor's degree in performance from the MUN School of Music, where he studied percussion with Rob Power, Don Wherry and John Wyre. He has also studied drumset with Canadian jazz drummers Joel Haynes and Tom Roach. As a musician, Keith performs regularly with the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra, the Scruncheons, the 1st Royal Newfoundland Regiment Band, and local pop-rock band Repartee. Keith has also had the opportunity to play with the Governor General's Band of the Ceremonial Guard for four summers and was the winner of the National Sabian/PASIC Scholarship in 2003. As both a percussionist and drumset player, Keith teaches a vast array of musical styles to students of all ages and skill levels.

Jon Lane - Percussion, Drums, Guitar
Jon Lane has been teaching drums and guitar at The Music Collection for over fifteen years and performs in St. John's as part of various groups including 709, the Lori Cooper Band and the Spirit of Newfoundland. He also directs and coaches many of The Music Collection's Rock Groups and camps.

Christopher Parsons - Studio Director, Percussion, Drums
One of The Music Collection's first teachers, Chris has been teaching percussion for over 20 years. In 1997 he graduated with a Bachelor of Music from MUN School of Music, studying with the late Don Wherry. Chris has performed with several groups including The Scruncheons, MUN Concert Band, both Gower Bands and the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra. He is also a multi award winning composer and multimedia developer. Chris is also responsible for The Music Collection's lesson administration and coordination.

Whitney Rowe - Percussion, Drums
As a graduate of Memorial University's Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Music Education degree programs, percussionist Whitney Rowe currently resides in St. John's, NL performing with the Scruncheons and the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra as well as directing the senior marching percussion ensemble at cadet summer training center H.M.C.S. Acadia in Cornwallis, NS during her summers. Originally from Corner Brook and winner of the 2007 SABIAN/PASIC Scholarship award, her past instructors include Bill Brennen, Tommy Murphy, Rob Power and John Wyre. As a new instructor at The Music Collection, Whitney looks forward to teaching both drum set and percussion to students of all ages and skill levels.

Jamie Wilkinson - Percussion, Drums, Bodhran, Guitar
Jamie has been teaching drums and guitar at The Music Collection since 2001. He earned his B.Mus. and B. Mus. Ed. from MUN School of Music in 2002. He is currently teaching choir, band, and applied music at St. Michael's High on Bell Island. Jamie performs with the band Redline and has also played with The Celtic Fiddlers. Past groups he has performed with include The Scruncheons, MUN Concert Band, Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra, Newfoundland Symphony Youth Choir and pit orchestras for several high school musical productions.
