Dance class can be a joyous place – music, cute outfits, movement expression and friends. It can also be a “scary” place of unfamiliarity, especially for little ones – no parents, new grown-ups, lots of other children, funny-sounding words. Many youngsters can suffer from “stage fright” when it comes time for dance class. They may cry, insist that their caregiver watch, or even refuse to go to class. There are many ways to go about dealing with this and, with some communication between the parent, teacher and child, that child’s tears and fears could soon turn into smiles and joy.
