Learn the classics, toe-tappin’ Fiddle or both! Violin lessons can begin for students as young as five years old, Cello or Viola at seven years old. We also have Double Bass lessons available. Lessons for Adults available. Music Collection offers qualified and experienced string teachers that will instruct you in the style you prefer at a pace that works for you. Madeline Carter
Madeline Carter - Violin/Fiddle, Mandolin

Madeline Carter is a fiddler originally from Aulac, New Brunswick who has been playing for 14 years. Playing a variety of different genres of music including Celtic, Country, and Folk, she also composes her own music. Along with her sisters, they make up “The Carter Girls” and their debut album "Crossing Borders" was released in July of 2020 featuring 6 original tunes. The album was recorded at "The Loft Studio" in Moncton, New Brunswick with the help of Studio Engineer and good friend Tyler Vollrath. Now living in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Madeline has recently graduated and received her diploma for Music Performance Business and Technology at College of the North Atlantic. She is gigging full time with duo partners Richard Parsons Jr and Darcy Scott and her band Saving Throw as well as being a backup fiddler for many local bands. She hopes to have a career in the music industry and continue her love and passion of music for many years to come.

Matthew-Hardy
Matthew Hardy - Guitar, Bass, Ukulele, Double Bass

Music has been a passion of Matthew’s since getting his first guitar and learning the basic power chords necessary to play all of his favorite Green Day tunes. After discovering his love for music extended beyond punk rock, he pursued a career in classical double bass. Now Matthew has performed with numerous ensembles such as the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra, the National Youth Orchestra of Canada, Jazz East, and as the principal bass player for the College Light Opera Company in Cape Cod Massachusetts. He received his Bachelor’s of music performance (honours) from Memorial University, his Master’s in music performance from McGill University in Montreal, and was the 2019 winner of the Memorial University Concerto Competition.

Jenna Maloney1
Jenna Maloney - Violin/Fiddle, Voice, Guitar, Ukulele, Bodhran

Jenna Maloney is a singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and fourth year MUN French student from St. John’s. She has performed in various festivals and shows around Newfoundland, including the NL Folk Festival, FOVP Lantern Festival, George Street Festival, Music NL Week, East Coast Music Week, and several Tada Events and Opera on the Avalon productions. She has also shared the stage with Tarahan and Sullivan’s Songhouse during the 2018 Gathering Festival in Southeast Ireland. In 2021, she released her debut Christmas single, “evergreen”. Aside from her work as a solo artist, she has been a part of multiple groups, notably as the bassist for Conway (2016-2022), and as part of duo Port-aux-Poutines alongside Axel Belgarde (since 2022), as well as having mentored numerous youth bands with Fergus O’Byrne’s Young Folk at the Hall (since 2016).

Rowan Sherlock - Piano, Violin/Fiddle, Viola, Guitar, Mandolin, Ukulele, String Ensemble

2021 Music NL nominee for ‘Music Educator of The Year’, Rowan Sherlock is a trained Classical violinist and pianist; having studied his craft in Waterford Institute of Technology Music School in Ireland for over 20 years, he then went on to undertake a BA in Music Composition and Classical violin performance, then followed by completing his MA in Music Composition under the tuition of the acclaimed Irish composer Dr Marian Ingoldsby. Rowan has in the past lead such orchestras as the South Eastern Region Youth Orchestra, the W.I.T Youth Orchestra, and has also toured internationally with the National Youth Symphony Orchestra of Ireland. He has performed with acclaimed Irish groups ‘In The Willows’, ‘Gypsi Swing’ as well as well-known Irish traditional band ‘Newfoundland’ with whom he has toured with extensively. Currently a member of local band Rugged Shores, Rowan has worked as a violin, piano and music theory teacher in schools across the South-East of Ireland as well as performing nationally with various groups. Rowan has performed on stage with many well-known musicians such as Duke Special, Nicola Benedetti and Dame Evelyn Glennie.
